The Stars Will Burn

Description

"The stars will burn and the Heavens will fall. Too long have mortals lived in complacency. It is time we take our place in the thrones of eternity and make our presence known once more. Humans have long forgotten the fey but we were worshiped as gods once. They may have forgotten us, Annys, but I have not. So I ask you one last time: will you raise your sword with me or against me?"

My character Giorgyn the Void Eater. In my novel To Love A Devil, this pretty fey king is the archon of entropy and the monarch of the Unseelie Court. To him, chaos is life and the more chaotic the human realm is, the better. For this very reason, he was betrayed by his own queen and banished, his very soul sealed into a scythe to symbolize the mortality that he had imposed upon humanity.

This destroyed the balance that he shared alongside the faerie queen, Tam'kyth of the Seelie, archon of Equilibrium. When he is accidentally released by the interference of humans in the faerie realm, the kingdom of the fey is torn in half: those who believe in Giorygn's chaotic rule still fall to their knees with undying loyalty. However, rather than returning to his throne with his head held high and full of forgiveness and love for his queen, his 2,000 year banishment has twisted a once harsh but fair ruler. He will destroy her and the light she represents.

Twisted and torn, he finds companionship and sympathy with another fey: the earth elemental Annys. Annys is mesmerised by the powerful aura of the King and almost begins to let himself fall to Giorgyn's cause. That is, until he begins to realize the horror that's been transpiring in the shadows of their Netherworld kingdom; the horror that's seeping from Giorgyn's fury and Giorgyn has been all too happy to distract Annys from it with promises of grandeur.

By the time Annys realises and alerts the other fey rulers, it's far too late to act: when wars and famines aren't enough chaos, Giorgyn begins to bleed his entropy into the human world, contorting space and time. Infuriated by the betrayal of Annys, it seems Giorgyn's heart has finally turned black. He wields the very scythe he was originally sealed into, a sick nod to how many lives will now perish at this faerie's cruel and petulant wrath.
